THE RIDDLE OF THE SANDS
5th-22nd May 2010 at Jermyn Street Theatre, Piccadilly

Tongue-in-cheek humour meets edge-of-the-seat suspense in this Edwardian tale of intrigue and espionage which introduced the genre of the spy thriller and inspired a whole generation of writers including John Le Carre and Ian Fleming.

This production, which received a fantastic reaction from the press and audiences when it toured the south east in 2009 and spring 2010, begins a London run at Jermyn Street Theatre in Piccadilly from 5th May.

When Foreign Office high flyer Carruthers agrees to a late summer break sailing the German Frisian Islands with a old university chum, he pictures a lazy cruise on a luxury yacht. But his dreams are shattered when he finds himself forced to crew the charmingly eccentric ‘Dulcibella’ with his boat-mad friend at the helm. It seems as though things can’t get any worse, but not even the hazards of ship-board life can prepare Carruthers for the perilous adventure that is to come. A fast moving storyline, quickfire character changes, imaginative physical work and simple staging combine to create a brilliant evening’s entertainment.
